Help with video formats

Postby Phoenixx » Thu Mar 20, 2008 18:18

Umm ..
I tried to convert some demos from ET ..
to watch it without ET or make a video or sth.
But after converting to wmv or mp4 i got the error as a pic IN the video: "Video format isnt valid" or something like this.
Do i need a special movie converter or is that normal? And .. how to make it possible to add a correct ET demo to a movie maker?
thx.

Make em uncompressed avies straight from screenshots if gonna edit, and if just wanna watch em, compress with some codec(x264,xvid). Use Virtualdub or Megui.

Use QuickTime. (*.mov files) with Sorenson compression, or download
Indeo Video drivers (*.avi) with Indeo 5.1 compressor.
( i use Indeo 5.1 Best quality and small files)

Is there posspible to convert a demo from ET? When you record a demo its not like a regular movie, game just remember what happend when you where playing and remeber players moves. If you want make a movie from demo just record a demo in game and save. The run FRAPS, play the demo and record to Uncompressed AVI, after this you can simply Edit and Compress it with DivX / XviD etc using VirtualDub.

I have never heard abiut demo converters to Quake or ET, or maybe i'm wrong... ;)

You can't direct convert ET (Quake) demos, because the data in that files is not a movie stream. Those files are sth like game log but with information about positions of each players, items and so on in game, with which ET client can reproduce the situation (game).

If you have a good multi-core processor you won't have any problemst with fps at all, and talking about quality...same quality as others programs uncompressed frames = highest quality...then some codecs like x264 and we have a nice movie.

Making perfect qua w/o losing a single frame aint a problem eaven with low processor. Eaven if you take the uncompressed stuff with 1800resolution, like most ppl does nowdays.
