Hmmm since your computer freezes only when playing ET (does it freeze in any other game?) I'd say there's a few things that might go wrong:
- graphics card gets too hot (look at the temperature of the core when idle, then play for 30minutes and look at the temperature again...some cards can handle really extreme temperatures - up to 125˚C, but some can give up at 80/90)
- bad drivers for your graphics card or unsolved problems with your hardware - check the device manager (i think that's it
) and see if there's any yellow signs - if there is such a problem, install drivers for that device)
- CPU gets too hot (after all, ET is a very CPU intensive game - same as above)
- viruses/trojans/spyware/other things that make our lives miserable - go download antivirus, antispyware tools and scan your computer (but don't install too many of these tools - they'll keep blocking each other and crash your computer, thus starting a robot uprise, which will eliminate all life as we know it...oh wait, just the crashing part)
I'd also recommend scanning your hard disk and RAM (memtest86 for RAM and that windows scanner for the disk will do nicely), cleaning the computer (best with a compressor - but you have to remember to unplug all the vents, otherwise you risk burning your graphics card or motherboard) etc.
If everything fails, try reinstalling windows...I'm still surprised how many problems that solves *sighs*

I'm not very informed on antivirus....but with spywares try "Spyware doctor"...it has been the best on 2007 I think...

i think i found out why it freezes up. i been playing on lost legions alot latetly and i went on lost legions 1 last night and download some maps i come on this morning and it has froze 2 times i got rid of maps i am going to see if that works if not i will reinstall et again
