You're 2 years late Fero, it was already announced 2 years ago :P

- 01 Nov 2007: News about the Wolfenstein Movie
- 03 Aug 2008: Avary writing Wolfenstein movie "right now"

There was some commotion about it last year cause the director Roger Avary accidentally killed someone in a car accident.

But I see there's a new statement;

The screenplay is finished, although I need to trim 10 pages from it. There comes a point when making a movie when you have to be realistic and let go of some of your darlings -- and I prefer to do that arduous task during the script stage. So this week I'm hunkering down and making some hard choices.

Slovakia is looking like an ideal shooting location, and I'm zeroing in on Castle Ovara (not because the name sounds like mine but because it's the closest I can find that looks identical to the game). We will augment practical locations with models and some cgi. Naturally, we'll be doing a lot of construction for the castle interiors, because I want them to mirror the sections of the game I'm replicating.

Shooting dates have been pushed a bit to give us enough time to properly visualize the creature effects and to synchronize with the snow season. Depending on casting, we would like to be shooting in Q4 of 2009.

One thing I want you to be prepared for is that this movie won't be a verbatim translation of the game. I've based this first film (yes, you read that right) on the entire franchise more so than just the story beats of RtCW. This movie is first and foremost a BJ Blazkowicz adventure in the RtCW universe. There will be purists who will be upset by this approach, but as I see it the game is already a complete work of art and stands on its own. A direct translation of the game's plot points simply wouldn't make a satisfying movie experience. This movie will be as loving to the work of John Romero and John Hall as it will be to RtCW. But more than anything, I want to capture the spirit of BJ Blazkowicz.

As for casting, I'm open to anything, but I see Willis as being a bit old to play a *beep* kicker like BJ. I want someone in their prime. Samuel Hadida and I take the casting suggestions here and elsewhere on the internet very seriously, but there will be real world limitations and constrictions that sometimes prevent the fantasy casting to materialize into reality.

More news to come...keep those casting ideas coming.

I actually thought that the opening scene of the movie Hellboy would fit pretty well in a Wolfenstein movie after I first saw it (started going downhill very soon after that scene though ;)).

Who would you like to see as B.J. Blazkowicz?

Edit:
Castle Ovara should probably be the Orava Castle in Slovakia
