We have jokes, fun pic, movies, music topics but we haven't one abaut books. I know that some guys here love reading and I hope that some more will show same interest. I made this topic in order to create a place where you can share your opinions, post some best titles, recommend, talk abaut favourite authors, type of books (or comics eventually).

So I shall begin....

I generally prefer fantasy books but I'm opened for new experiences.
If you like fantasy I'd like to reccomend

*Terry Pratchett's Discworld http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discworld it's really worth to try

*Christopher Paolini's Eragon, The Eldest and Brisingr 3 books of Inheritance Cycle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inheritance_Cycle

*R.A. Salvatore's books set in Forgotten Realms world http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Ant ... _Salvatore especially abaut Drizzt Do'Urden

If you want some horror and thriller books I think that you should grab something from Stephen King, he's really amazing if it's abaut this kind of books. He also writes else but I don't know many titles (Wazzup will post some for sure).

For some detective and criminal stories my sister reccomends Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agatha_Christie

And if you want something that will grab your intelliget nuts read:

Stephen KIng - only writer which all books will never makes me boring

imo best his positions - Shining, Salem's Lot, Tommyknockers, Desperation, Regulators, Cujo, Night Shift, Pet Sementery and Dark Tower Saga

I also like H.P.Lovecraft, Julius Verne, Anne Rice nad few others but those mentioned are my favorite writers

nah...

i used to read much books in past, but nowadays i don't have so much time or intrest for that

i have mostly read some detective and criminal stuff

yeah, agatha christie has made many damn good books, and i like her style not to tell the murder before the last pages.

i really dont remember all books i have read, but many many years ago i read many of enid blytons books

also loved the harry potters,

Good topic indeed, i am more in to sience fiction then fantasy so my 3 all time best that i recommend checking out (not including the Ender's game cause it's above any human rating

)

Nice to see that topic isn't dead after 3 replies

But i still think we have more readers here. Cmon guys! Share your opinions reading is not a schame!

I also loved Harry Potter Harp, but I'm to old for it now. And of course Tolkien's books are awesome but they are so well known that I did't think abaut mentioning them.

I see that you guys reccomend many SF books so I think I'll try some of it.

For Polish guys I also advise to read Andrzej Pilipiuk books. Guys writes funny novels with familiar and often amusing polish climate.

I've got 2 Witcher books now, borrowed them for winter hollidays. Couple of days more and I won't be able to stop reading :drool:

After Witcher I'm going to try some of yours.

I hate Harry Potter ><

But i forgot about something, one of the best books ever wroten imo, its a novel (about 20 pages) by Dalton Trumbo about soldier in WW1 who had lost all of his senses and his limbs. Absolutelly terrific, you wont forget about that book, trust me!

I've been forced by timon to write here...so here we go

I really like few polish autors...Sapkowski, Kossakowska e.g.
Pilipiuk is also great, I read his Operation: 'Ressurection Day' - amazing and fascinating book (abt postapocalyptic world after nuclear war)

I read this ages ago, it's really great book (there was also a movie - 'Legend of Earthsea' or smth like that)
I'm not even gonna mention about Tolkien and his books which are awesome (lotr, the hobbit, the childrens of hurin)

(or comics eventually).

yeah, all Marvel comics are great - SpiderMan, X-men, Iron-Man, Fantastic4 and more...

Stephen King? Yes, he's a genius, I read only a few of his books - the shining, dead zone and the Stand (oh god I love that postapocaliptic climat)

reading is not a schame

You would be surprise, young ppl prefer to watch the movies or play stupid comp games(I'm kinda hipocryte cuz I used to play wow / gw a lot ) than read a good book, for example - our classmates, Timon

Timon I can reccomend Robert Jordan fantasy series for you, it's called "wheel of times", Harpix mentioned it aswell, by far the best series I read - even though it was a long time ago

And beside Harry potters writer; there's Ursula le Guin who's also a great famale fantasy writer

it seems unfair to name favorites when I look at my shelf, feels like whatever I take I will leave out the rest

but here's a few that I rarely can get out of my head:
The picture of dorian gray - by Oscar Wilde
Disgrace - by J.M. Coetzee
heart of darknes - by joseph conrad
Metamorphoses - by Publius Ovidius Naso (also known as Ovid)
Molloy (and the two other books in the trilogy) - Samuel Beckett
The Book of Disquiet - by Fernando Pessoa
The Autists - by Stig Larsson (hard to find, it's a swedish writer, has been translated to several laguages though - and no, there's no imbd page =/)

And many more, basicly all classic works I ever read has made it's print inside of me

My advice however is to stick to whatever works for you at the begining, don't jump in to "heavy" books if you don't have an idea about what you're doing ^^

I should perhaps mention that I have a degree in literature by the way, with a general "canon" of world literature concentration and in Gender/Feminist studies in modern/post-modern scandinavian works
