I prefer it empty haha.
With my desktop manager (XFCE) its not as easy to place items on the desktop as you have to set up different launchers. Instead, I keep all of my other items such as documents and music in my /home/liam directory. All the shortcuts etc I dont use as I use the terminal (command prompt for linux) more than anything. I have ET as a shortcut on the bar at the bottom though
