rolf ... my fail ...rly score finnish its 288
lul ... good im not teach in school
explain step by step
48/2*(9+3)
1.step 48/2*(9+3) rules= Actions in brackets
2.step 48/2*12 rules = If the expression occurs only divide or multiply and divide, this is performed in the order in which they are written from left to right.
3.step 24*12 = 288

48 : 2 x (9 + 3) |:2
24 : (9 + 3)
24 : 12
2
this is competely wrong maths![]()
how can (9+3) |:2 still be (9+3)
48 : 2 * (9+3)
48 : 2 * 12 |:2
24 : 1 * 6
24 : 1 * 6
24 * 6
144
(9 + 3) =12
24 : 1= 24
beacuse of deviding it into 2, the answer is 2 times smaller
well, lets do it this way:
48 : 2 = 24;
2 x (9 + 3) : 2 = 1 x (9 + 3) = 12;
its kind of the counterpart to:
48 : (18 + 6) = 48 : 2 * (9 + 3)
like:
48 : (18ab + 6ab)
= 48 : 2 (9ab + 3ab)
= 48 : 2ab (9 + 3)
= 48 : (18ab + 6ab)
the "2" belongs to the brackets!
its like:
48 guys want to move 2 beerboxes:
48people devided on 2beerboxes
48 : 2b
b = beer or 12
btw at google counter: i enter 48/2(9+) and it returns me:
(48 / 2) * (9 + 3) = 288
it is adding brackets (!!!)
btw, i got a counter where i enter 48 : 2 * (9+3) and it returns me 2. and this counter it idiot proof, trust me i tryed it.

shit counter
try 48:2*12 thisone cant be 2 xD
we got the solution:
48 : 2 * 12 = 288
48 : 2 * (9 + 3) = 288
48 : 2 (9 + 3) = 2
the non existing * between 2 and (9... means the 2 is refering to the bracket, the existing * is not.
thats what i call a bad counter, death
do this with your counter:
get me solution on this formula:
http://www.mikrocontroller.net/attachme ... chnitt.JPG
the one with the root of 1 - alpha ...
alpha = 45 degrees
EDIT: without setting any brackets!

The distributive property of multiplication CLEARLY states that the 2(9+3) is an entire statement and CANNOT be broken up. 2(9+3) follows the distributive property which can be rewritten as (2*9+2*3). Let me repeat the 2 outside of the parenthesis follows the distributive property of multiplication and must be factored and simplified before performing any other operations on it. You do NOT compute this expression from left to right until you use Algebra to simplify the statement 2(9+3).
So this can be rewritten as:
48 / (2*9 + 2*3)
Which leaves us with
48 / 24 = 2
Answer = 2.
Lastly for those using Google or any other online calculator. These do not understand many theorems or properties so you must explicitly explain what you mean. There is a difference between 48 / 2 * (9+3) and 48 / 2(9+3). The first notation reads 48 / 2 * 1(9+3) while the second reads 48 / (2*9+2*3). Be very careful with your signs.
quote from yahoo answers, my point.
Landser your yahoo answer thingi has a point but imo only when the second part of the sum is seen as a sum on its own, imo it takes 2(9+3) and 48/ X as seperate sums.
Therefore it is wrong and the answer still is 288!!!
i might be wrong but im no mathmatician xD

ya, i only get 2 because i see 2(9+3) as 1 expression instead of 2.
now the question is: is this right?
i think ya, because you can perform this:
25 + 100 || shorten it
= 5 (5 + 20)
both is 125 and its a correct way of doing senseless mathematical stuff.
if we now add it to division thingy:
1250 : (25 + 100) = 10
1250 : 5 (5 + 20) = 10
from this point you did:
1250 : 5 = 250
250 (5 + 20) = 6250 instead of 1250.
the 5 (5+20) stands for 5 times the amount of 25 and does not need any brackets allthough it would be helpfull.
same like in our 48 : 2(9+3)
it is the doubleamount of 9+3.
this has to be solved prior to the division.

Here you are wrong... these are 2 different sums.
1250 : 125 = 10
and
1250: 5 = 250 ---- 250* (25) = 6250
The way you see the sum is like this 48/ (2*(9+3))
But the extra () arent there in the original sum, therefore you cant just go add them, if you add them and then calculate it you indeed get 2 as a result but the extra () arent in the original sum therefore i stick with my answer 288

You see the second sum you created as 1250: (5*(5+20)) but again .. the extra () arent in the original sum, you can have 2 different outcomes but then you will have to create 2 different sums , 1250/5*(5+20) and 1250/(5*(5+20))
