can't connect

Well, I recently installed et and the patch on my laptop but when I try to connect to a server I get the awaiting gamestate line but it keeps saying it forever and I never actually connect so I went to check the faq and it said to adjust a file called "hosts" so I opened it with word and adjusted it but my laptop doesn't let me save it, how can i help this?

Is it first time you install ET on your laptop or you've had it installed before?

@ samurai: ye its been very long and im studying in another "big" city in belgium rather far away from my home so I stay there in a student room and im very bored (when im not going to a bar ^^) so I really wanted to play again
and yes its the first time I try to install ET on my laptop

ET folder (Enemy-Territory Wolfenstein) -> PB ...
I believe that is the right location

It's still not connecting

, I think i can never play ET again, it always gives me problems :S
Maybe my laptop just isnt strong enough to run ET, idk

you should try to connect to another server, and see what happens there.

It could also be that your laptop isn't good enough, but then it must be REALLY old

Do you have Vista? I hope not for you ^^ That could also be a prob, try to run it in Adminstrator Mode.

Maybe try command in console: /cl_allowdownload 1 , it could be that your PC doesn't auto dl the necessary files... You can also dl them manually, but that is quite a big job, so better just do the command and make it work automatically

If all the above doesn't work, maybe you can try to re-install ET? If that doesn't work, I give up too xD

Ye i have Vista, is that a problem or do i just try your advice?
EDIT: Im the only user on this laptop so i guess im in administrator mode

ah, the good old Vista problem

right click on the link you use to start up ET, and click Properties. Then search a bit for Administrator Mode (or smth like that, I have never seen Vista before xD) Make sure you are AM, or nothing will work. But for the rest you can try the command I gave you, if it fails re-install ET
