Lag spikes
So, my problem is: after i have build a new pc, wolfenstein et runs terribly. My average fps is about 15.
I remember that on my old pc it run like butter ( 60-120 fps)
Ps: running windows 8.1 pro; all the drivers are up to date, including the bios.
New pc specs:
- amd fx8350 cpu ( 8 cores, 4.0 ghz )
- 8gb dd3 1600 mhz ram
- msi radeon r9 270x gpu ( 2 gb of gddr5, 256 bit, 1120 mhz )
old pc specs:
- intel pentium d dual ( 2 cores, 3.0 ghz )
- 2gb ddr2 800 mhz ram
- nvidia 8400gs gpu ( 512 mb of gddr2, 64bit , 650 mhz )

Re: Lag spikes
What did you already tried to solve it?
Some regular things:
/com_maxpackets => 100
/com_maxfps => 15 >
other network/performance settings
windows he
check firewalls for interferance
try running it on a single core
force it to run in 7 or xp settings
See what it does I would say.

Re: Lag spikes
Could be combination of these two:
That gfx card is AMD based right? Some drivers after 13.09 (I think) have had issues with OpenGL, I had low fps problems with 13.12 on my desktop. But I rarely use that PC so I haven't tried latest drivers after degrading back to 13.09 which was the last driver working with ET.
Maybe there is someone else using ADM card who can tell us if latest drivers work already or not?

Re: Lag spikes
I have run it in compatibility mode with no success. Tried to install older drivers (uninstalled catalyst 14.3 and installed catalyst 13.9). No success Windows said "no video input".
If there is the problem i can't see a solution ))
Are there any commands inside of wolfenstein which i can use?

Re: Lag spikes
The best way, which mostly helps, is to reinstall ET (also clean registry). Another thing is that u have so many pk3 files in /etmain - they are fps eaters, but if not, u must be sure your pc is not infected. I recommend Glary Utilities 3 (the 4th version is bad imo), u have a lot of options here to make your PC clean, just check it
/com_maxfps 125
/com_maxpackets 100
/rate 40000
U should also try with lowest quality settings of ET, Do u see difference in fps? and check your graphic card settings, they should be turned into performance settings, not in quality.
If still not help u can seek for apps which will optimalize your graphic card.

Re: Lag spikes
Try a fresh install, i think problem is settled in etconfig, had same problems years ago when i changed from ati/amd gfx card to nvidia
Re: Lag spikes
seta r_primitives 2
worth a try at newer amd cards

sometimes you lose - sometimes the others win

This sounded interesting and short googleing gave some hits. I found proper app AtiTool and
I just overclocked my old ati graphic card (default max 300 mhz to 375 mhz).
I think it is better now =P, less lag and maybe + 10-20 fps.
EDIT: My lagspikes are wireless internet relative and takes lot of interefrence so lagometer runs like a red'ometer sometimes,
but now the spikes are more smoothly. I have bad hardware so overclocking just buys some time (I hope it wont melt the gpu chip xD although temperatures are still low. So far so good.)
Cheers
