8600GTS and ET
I got my "new" graphics card today (i sent my 7900GT back becouse it was busted) and when i ran ET my jaw just dropped...it can only deliver 60fps (max) while my old (and busted) 7900GT could do 1800 and more (in a crowded map - 40 players were on the server). Does any1 else have this sort of a problem with this card (gigabyte 8600GTS silent pipe something)?
The hardware configuration:
- motherboard: Asus P5W DH deluxe
- cpu: intel core 2 duo E6400 (@ 2,13GHz)
- ram: 2x1024MB DDR2 800MHz (PC2-6400)
- OS: windows vista buisiness 32bit
Do i need any patches or what?
Tnx in advance
P.S. radeon X1300 pushes the FPS to 70 so there must be something wrong...

Did you used that Radeon card before you used your Nvidia 7900 card?
If so, did you uninstalled those old Radeon graphics drivers from your system?
It can give major problems when you still have the drivers on your system from another gfx card manufacturer. Some people even advice to format your system if you change from 1 brand to the other (radeon to nvidia or the other way around).

yeep vista is
vista is the problem i have a vista laptop
and i cant play ET on it
i installed nfs most wanted but it only runs on the lowest quality or elss if you want spend 1 hour at each race
vista is rubish the only thing vista is good for is media and for bussiness

Well the fps counter said it was 1800 (capped it to 9999 )
Hum ET still not working, but armed assault works great (40fps on high settings, i usually had 30 on my 7900GT)
I had a radeon X1300 while my 7900 was on repair but i uninstalled everything (i don't want to do a format becouse i have everything set-up too nicely)...besides, if it was vista's fault ArmA wouldn't work (it's more CPU and GPU intensive then ET )
I'm suspecting either the graphics card is not supported in ET (my cousing has a 7950GT and ET runs like on this 8600 - 60fps at best) or ET doesn't support vista (which is weird, becouse i had a normal fps rate on 7900GT)...weird weird :S
Any other suggestions (besides formating and installing XP )?
Tnx for all your efforts

I also see you have a dual core, configure the ET.exe that it uses 1 core only, thought it can be done within the taskmanager or else on the properties of the et.exe file.
There are a lot of programs that dont work properly running on 2 cores in combination with Vista (Flash 8 for example).

Xavier, and others interested:
Install ngo drivers, they are faster and more tweakable.
After installing go to display setting and set ur quality settings to perfomance.
And set most function to be selecteble by application , dont force your drivers to override it.
I have seen an 20-50% increase with those drivers. of course it depends on the game or programm.
If u want to achieve a better frame rate dont use vertical sync (your targetting will be more difficult).
Setting your affinity to 1 does help with ET only if u have lots of stuff in the backround running, for example stupid 1500 vista services. Your proccesor has to decide which ones of them has priority than others and chaos happens. However on Xp you wont notice anything.
On framerates hunksize and zonesize plays a role, this memory is used for caching. So after your play for about 1 min your framerate should reach max, on every new loaded map, and generally give u the highest framerate. If u have fluctuations, this could be the problem (or an ugly designed map). I have my hunk size set to 128 and the other two at 32 megs.
This one will sound funny, but yes your internet line affects your framerate. Set your rate as high as possible. If your line sux than your pc is waiting for graphic entities to be sent before drawing, reorganizing all the object costs cpu power (and framerate), and ur graphics engine does not know what 2 draw until it arrives. We all know what happens to baserace sometimes, when u get this constant hang, and when u go undergound somewhere sometimes it disapears . Its cause of the lots of objective sent ovr multiple times, high network utilization.
Thats all i could write for Hours, but this stuff so much you could write a book about it.
P.S
The next generation cards (directx10) are slower on older games. They use a more complicated instruction set and merged common functions, thats how they are faster. But the old functions work in same speed(or lower) like the older cards. So games already released must be patched for speed reasons, which i think will not happen cause they already work in acceptable speed.
