FOV Conversion
I'm too stupid for this so maybe someone clever here can help me.
I used to play on a 1600x1200 screen with FOV at 110. Now i'm playing 1366x768 - what would the corresponding FOV be?
Thanks in advance.

Re: FOV Conversion
Too lazy to do real calculations but on my 1280x1024 (4:3) I have cg_fov 90 and on my laptop 1366x768 (16:9) I had cg_fov 110 or so and they seemed very similar to me.
If you were having cg_fov 110 on 1600x1200 (4:3) you should probably have something like cg_fov 120 (ain't that the maxinum PB used to allow?) on 1366x768. I guess the best way is just test different values.
Ok, I admit I also did some calculations, not quite sure though whether or not my logic was even close. But anyways the answer was like 125 (124.48 to be exact).

Thanks! Doesn't really matter i guess, just that nothing feels right on this laptop and I thought fixing the fov would at least give me a point of reference...
What value do you get if you use 1024x768 instead of 1600x1200? Or is it the same (both 4:3)?
Maybe I should just change r_mode and play with black bars on the side...

Re: FOV Conversion
Shouldn't really matter imo as the aspect ratio is the same.lis wrote:What value do you get if you use 1024x768 instead of 1600x1200? Or is it the same (both 4:3)?

And please dont play with black bars, it will most likely drive you mad when trying to see something from such a small screen

Re: FOV Conversion
I guess it's like that:
your previous ratio was 1600:1200 = 4:3
now you have 1366:768 = 16:9
16:9/4:3 = 4:3
so now in terms of ratio your screen is 1/3 wider that previously, so logically FOV should be also, but it gives 4*110/3 = 147, which is quite high. Just my theory.
I guess 120 will be ok.

ninja i play with blackbars i dont know how to fix that xD to get 1680x1080(1020dont know)

X and Y depend on your resolution. If you use console tha change the settings do "vid_restart" so changes get applied.Smadje wrote:Change this in either console or preferably in the config you are using.
seta r_customaspect "1"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_customwidth "X"
seta r_customheight "Y"

Re: FOV Conversion
Hmm, would be nice to know how they did their calculations. Very close to my results, but yet different.
Though might be because 1366x768 isn't quite 16:9 but 16:8.996...
But interesting find anyways

Appears plausible!
I figured that changing from 4:3 to 16:9 would completely render aim/movement unfamiliar, as the hitboxes are a diff. shape and mouse movement also feels weird (especially yawing the mouse). I guess that there's not much more I can do other than getting to used it.
Thanks for your inputs everyone!
