Fire button work alone o_O [linux inside]

Postby Spyhawk » Thu Oct 11, 2007 23:35

Ok guys, I have a strange problem since a few days (weeks ?) and need help.

First, I'm running Linux, so I think only advanced players could help me.

My problem is that the fire button (mouse 1) seems to work without I activated it, and sometime don't work when I press it.

It's very very annoying, because :
- I'm doing TB and sometime even TK
- I must reload a lot to have anytime a full gun ready-to-use
- I have problem to kill enemy, specially on 1 vs 1

I think it's _not_ an hardware problem, because :
- I have a high quality swiss mouse :) (logitech G5) which is pretty shinig (2 or 3 months old)
- this problem doesn't appear with no-game application (tested with xev on console), nor with ETQW Demo on windows (only on localhost against bots)

And, this _software_ problem seems to be linked with amount of lag I have, because :
- On PS#1 running NQ, I have lot of lag (will discuss this below), and lot of "mouse fire alone" symptom
- I play PS#4 too, and I have lesser lag and lesser mouse problem.
- I've tested with local etpub server (~20 minutes), jumping and firing around on some maps. Practically no problem (only 2 short times).
- It seems that the nearest is my enemy, the most symptom I have (1 vs 1 is very hard :D)

I've recently changed my Linux distribution (Arch Linux to openSUSE), but I think the problem is older than my new installation (cause I was offline some weeks, holydays, then forget to pay internet bill, so maybe 3 weeks without playing).

So, actually using openSUSE 10.3, with Logitech G5 mouse, and evdev driver.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf
Note that some line are commented with #
16 Section "ServerLayout"
17 Identifier "Layout[all]"
18 Screen "Screen[0]" 0 0
19 InputDevice "Keyboard[0]" "CoreKeyboard"
20 InputDevice "Mouse[1]" "CorePointer"
21 InputDevice "Mouse[3]" "SendCoreEvents"
22 Option "Clone" "off"
23 Option "Xinerama" "off"
24 EndSection

...

84 Section "InputDevice"
85 Identifier "Mouse[1]"
86 # Driver "mouse"
87 Driver "evdev"
88 Option "Buttons" "12"
89 # Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
90 Option "Name" "Logitech USB Gaming Mouse"
91 # Option "Protocol" "explorerps/2"
92 Option "Vendor" "Sysp"
93 Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
94 EndSection

Is anyone had a problem like this ?
Any idea or recommendation ?

Oh, my network settings (same since a few months) :

rate 25000
cl_maxpackets 60
snaps 40
cl_packetdup 0
cl_timenudge 0

Overrall lag : ~25-30

PB is up2date.

------------

Ok now, second part of problem : PS#1 lag.
Since lot of time, PS#2 running NQ with PB disabled was unplayable for me. I dont know why (lot of people maybe ?)

PS#1 with etpub with PB enabled was very fine,
PS#1 with NQ with PB enable was fine (and 20-30 players)
PS#1 with NQ and PB disabled is lagging a lot (even with limited number of player like 10)

So :
a) PB enabled cause lesser lag ? It's strange, because PB use system ressource, or
b) Players playing with PB disabled cause lot of lag on my machine
c) another reason. Which one ?

What do you think of that ? Have you too log of lag with PS#1 ?
PS: I have lag, even if my ping is low (~20-30)

Thx for advice and help.

Hey Lisa :P

No, I haven't try another mouse, because the only other I have is a very crappy and 7 years old mouse. It don't work cause button block when I use it (so I buy a new :) ), and this mouse stayed glued to my hand and lost some pieces of rubber when I used it (was really funny to play with it ^^).

EDIT : Ok, problem solved. How, why ? I just don't know, but all is perfect now, so I'm happy :)
