Help with my PC config plz !

Postby Millenium » Wed Jan 23, 2008 10:06

Hello ppl :D
I'll be back soon in the business, i'm buying a new PC but first i need opinions plz.

First i'm hesitating beetween AMD X 2 and INTEL CORE 2 DUO.
I've hear INTEL is for the moment maybe better but for the same price i've got :
AMD Processeur Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Dual Core (3,2 Ghz) = 155 euros
and
Intel Processeur Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.66 GHz) = 160 euros

Secondly i would have your opinions beetween ATI or NVIDIA.
I will pay around 100 or 150 euros max for it ( i know that is low GF but wont pay more anyway ) :p
Have you ever heard of XFX graphic cards ? are they good ? cause their prices seems low compared to the others or should i buy a known GF like MSI, ASUS or Sapphire ?

For he RAM is there a problem if i buy "dual channel" memory (they are cheaper than the non dual channel ones) and if my mother card dont support it ? (i think that should work but i prefer to be sure)

Thx for advices and help !

Hi mill, nive to c around mate , hope u will return to ET again cuz my MP40 realy miss u :P

About the choice of Intel or AMD , i m personaly for Intel processors but here is somethin that will maybe help u a bit :

http://techreport.com/articles.x/12091/1

For the GC, XFX is a well known mark too, no hesitation about their cards, they have similar perf. than other cards with a good possibilty of overclocking, and for less than 150 euros i advice u for a Geforce 8600 GT 256 Mo (u can find some around 100 euros now). Some cards are just more expensive cuz their design or their cooler system but i think taht s not realy somethin u care about :) .

this dual channel stories is not a big mess, u can activ dual channel as long as u have exactly same RAMS, so don t worry about that. And about Marks, i advice u for Corsair's rams , the est ones imo.

Anyway, if u have some questions , u have my mail and u can also call me , will help u for sure .

@+

Mill, i have some friends who works on PC shops so call me and will give u their adress.

Thanks for your answer Bowly :p, my Thompson miss you too :!:

Ok so for the moment from your advices my cfg will be:
INTEL CORE 2 DUO around 2,6Ghz around 160 euros

Mother Card with no dual channel, no crossfire or SLI ( wont buy 2 graphic card so...) : around 100 euros i saw good ones.

For Graphic Card so i'll try XFX as if i heard they've got some problems coz a friend on a PC-SHOP told me ppl returned them in warranty a lot.

And Bowly for your advice about your friends, i'll phone you in the week so :D

Thanks for reply and all other advices are still welcome :p

Ok np mill, wait for u r call.

Just about XFX cards problems, it can be true but i also had problems with my asus 7900 GTX, witch must be a good card, i mean that you can never be sure about, well known marks or no :) , but as long i know i have friends who are runin XFX cards in their machine and i ve never heared about problems. Well, no one is never sure , specialy in Computer's stuffs :D .

Just for MC , if u have choice , try to choose good one (Asus imo) cuz it s realy the most important imo.

Mill:

DON'T buy 8600 GTS. Fock performances. Buy an ATi HD3850. Owns that old skool 8600GTS. If you don't believe I've benchmarks for you. By us a HD3850 from MSI is 129,- euro. Standard overclocked. Give me a webshop in France and I'll create something for you. Just tell me your budget and what you want.

I suggest you:
Intel core 2 duo E6750 - 170 euro
MSI HD3850 256 MB Standard OC - 129 euro
Asus P5K,Retail (as mainboard) 97,75 euro

Just give me a French webshop for computer parts. Everyday I read new things on the internet about hardware and computer configs. So I'm up to date

About the Intel C2D E6750 and the AMD Athlon X2 6400+ CPU:
Buy the E6750. Clockspeed says nothing. E6750 has 4 MB cche the X26400+ only 2. But buy a new cpu E8400 (45nm, means: cheaper prodcution, faster, less energy user). The E8400 has 6 MB cache and 3,0 GHz clockspeed for only 173 euro (in The Netherlands). Only problems: they are coming next month and there isn't a benchmark between the E6750 & E8400. E8400 will win (I'm sure).

ATi HD3850, if you've 200 euro to spend: 8800GT.
Mother card, you mean mainboard. Main board Asus P5K. That's all.

i agree with zombie that ati will have the better performance, but if you like to use linux (and et) buy a nvidia card. they know how to build (linux) drivers. at the moment ati didnt support the hd3800 series at linux :((
intel cpu is ok, and asus mainboards too, but some say gigabyte will produce the better boards today (ask 2 guys and you get 4 answers ;) ).

True, Gigabyte is also a nice producer of mainboards. Asus is a bit at the background. With Gigabyte you'll have powersaving mainboards (you can configure yourself the power consumption, put some things to 80 percent in stand of 100 with same performace).
