Sniping in nq 127 - the suffering and the solution
Heya,
I think you all will agree with me, good sniping in NQ 1.2.7 is impossible.
I have contact with one of the NQ dev's (S.S AliceInChains) who confirmed the changes in nq 127. I spend some time on Alices' server with edited weapon scripts.
What are weapon scripts? Since NQ 1.2.5, all values of a weapon (damage, bullets, speed reducement, alternateFire mode, etc etc) is stored in files ending on ".weap".
You can open it as a archive.
Only 2 files was edited:
"k43.weap" and "m1_garand_s.weap".
The axis and the allies sniper rifle.
(I was not sure, but i think all .weap files need to be in this pk3 for a working implementation on a server).
You can extract and open the .weap file in a texteditor. I also pasted them here:

This is an apply to sebbel as the owner: look into changes and try them out (if needed on a testserver) please! A how2 for weapon scripts is in the NQ wiki:

Lets face it, NQ 1.2.7 is just a fail ^^

With current settings even when aiming perfectly in midle of target (lets say nipples level) you have like 1/10 chances to hit. For me it looks totally random.
Somethimes im aiming on foot and reciving hs, ridicolous.
maybe developers of Nq looked at it that realizm demand modifications; wind, distance, you must aim a bit abowe the target. But for gods sake, not that much! -.- Also i dont like reloading with scope on. Now playning sniper is infact impossible, wasted whole class on bigger maps.
If that would be possible to fix it with some server scripts, settings, whatever, that would be great.

Im actually more accurate without the scope than with at the moment :D
And when comparing to SMG, sniper rifles are completely worthless. MP40 is almost as accurate as sten for god sakes!

MP40 isnt as accurate as sten.. ._.
MP40 is more accurate in 1.2.3 as in 1.2.7.
In 1.2.7 spread of MP40 = 600, of sten it should be 200
STG / BAR are as accurate as the sten. Even though it was for me a big surprize aswell
now some more ontopic:
I was on some Developer Server and tried out the current 1.2.8 version (pre version of the new nq)
There it's fixed, also the screenshaking with mp40/thompson is fixed (for wose which are annyoed by it, including me)
If the developers won't destroy that new version with additional bugs, and some other nerf settings, like they did imo at 1.2.7, it would be best nQ release, compared to the other versions.
And main point of my speech.., maybe to wait for new nq release ^^

The best update was the jump from 1.2.0 to 1.2.3 -> even though 1.2.3 had this strange shotgun-bug, or the 'bigger hitboxes' on which other players complain.

Yes this thing has annoyed me too aswell.
When i first tried to snipe i was like wtf, they have godmode or something on, then sebbel told me that it is bug of nq 1.2.7.I was little supriced becouse i never noticed huge problem like this before when i played in ps servers.

We are currently still discussing and testing new settings for the upcoming NQ release. It appeared that other weapons were affected (mainly the spread) by older code changes as well. The weaponscripts were just partially responsible for it.
The rifle settings at PS5 had already been changed a couple of months ago, but apparently not enough. Spoke about this with Seb already so hold your emo wagon
