No sound on Ubuntu 12.04 :(

Postby egglaf » Tue Dec 17, 2013 18:20

Hey chaps,

I don't manage to get the sound working. It really screws my pleasure when I play, which is also why I am not so often online lately.

I tried most things you can find on the internet, but nothing yet worked. Is there someone who has experienced this as well?

I run ubuntu 12.04 LTS, pulse audio

You've probably seen this one already?

More specifically methods 4a, 4b and 5.

Oops, I am a bit tired.

Yes, I tried practically everything you can find online, including the you mentioned :)

I have a clue of what the problem might be, but I don't know how to solve it :(. Look at the error in the last line of the code.

Code: Select all
-e [et-sdl-sound] info   : et.x86 is installed to /usr/local/games/enemy-territory
-e [et-sdl-sound] info   : 32-bit libSDL.so is installed to /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libSDL-1.2.so.0.11.3
-e [et-sdl-sound] info   : library is written to /tmp/et-sdl-sound.so
-e [et-sdl-sound] info   : launching the game...
ERROR: ld.so: object '/tmp/et-sdl-sound.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

This is just a wild guess, but your sdl-sound is installed into tmp, or Temporary Files?
I quickly checked the installation and found this following line (probably out of context): /path_to/et/et-sdl-sound.so, which means your sdl-sound.so should be installed into your ET folder, not tmp.

The script writes the et-sdl-sound.so to the tmp dir every time you run the script. I am afraid that it is somethin else. Maybe it is some security feature of linux in general that causes this error.

Wheee I fixed it by installing et again from here:

http://www.playdeb.net/software/Enemy%20Territory

Watch out with previous installations, your /usr/local/bin/et spoils this installation. Remove/rename it :).
