30 april & 1 may
I would like to sit down and have a little lesson with you all.
1 of may is celebrated in Finland as the "Finnish Workers day"
It´s a day when nobody (except the police:P) is working in the whole country.
It´s a day when everyone goes out, to have a picnic in the park, eating and drinking champagne, enjoying the spring, and then in the evening they go to a resturant or pub.
Then one day little childrens, The Youth came.
On the 30 of April (tomorrow) all young ppl are outside, guess where?
yup, in the park, where the adults will be the next day.
The day starts by going to the store (when every1 is still working)
to buy all kind of alcohol & smokes & candy and sometimes fireworks.
Then the youngsters hide´em somewhere ( or starts to drink immediately)
And later on, when it gets darker & evening they start to drink.
Some people drinks to much so the police takes them right away,
Some people drinks and then wants to fight
Some people drinks to much and then want to "shagg" in a bush
Some people drink and then they play hide & seek with the police
Some people does all of this.
In my city, (don´t know how the other cities are exactly)
people drink to much and then vadalise everything they can.
So the youth are slowly taking over the whole meanig of 30april & 1may.
As for me, im starting to drink today, so i will be drunk the next 3 days in row. ( thats because im getting nearer to 18 and then i can´t to any of this anymore the same way as ppl under 18 does it)
Now, do You celebrate 30 april and 1 May in anyway?
Cheers Blair.

may
You have nice habits;)!
actually in germany the 1st of may is a holiday too (labor day) and hardly anyone has to work. the youth up to the older ones celebrate, same as you do, from 30 April to 1 may.
on 1 may it´s an old custom to do a so called may-waking-tour which means that there are a lot of people(especially men) walking with a trolley cart (little red wagon) full of beer and get drunk.

Furthermore there are big demonstrations which often are not so peacefully:
e.g. Berlin
