Is it SK or not?

Postby FlowerPower » Fri Oct 10, 2008 15:13

I have doubt: I was playing as field op in Axis Lab and throw fire support at this door (watch the demo) ---> http://rapidshare.com/files/152664078/2008-10-10-130903-axislab_final.dm_84.html

Is this SK or not?
I wanna hear all the opinions, especially from admins...

Thanks, Flower :)

Since you wanna hear all opinions - here's mine:

Actually this is not SK. But with many(!) players, ppl could/will spawn in artillery range.
So, i would not use it too much or even spam. :?

Difficult to say based on your demo. It looks like you're actually hitting/killing people on top of the hill but these could also be players descending down the ladder. Imo you should be careful calling artillery at that spot, since you don't know where your artillery hits, so close to enemy spawn.

He Flowerpower,

you already asked me ingame my thoughts about it. I said to you that I don't think it is spawnkill. But I also tried to explain you have to really carefull cause if you throw the airstrike verticaly from the cave you hit spawn.
(As a field ops you can choose which way an airstrike goes by moving after you have thrown it).

I asked this because, you know, throwing an airstike in that place is really helpful for defending...

But as you guys said, it's better not to do it, since there's a risk of killing people near spawn. Ok, Thanks for all the replies! :)

isnt it the direction in which you throw it?? like when you throw it it always goes from left to right (if you understand me ^^ )

No, Viduus is correct. You can change the path of an airstrike after you've thrown it by facing to a specific direction. I believe the path of the airstrike will go the opposite way of the direction you're facing.

How to explain without pictures .. :?

Throw airstrike.
Then move (strafe) in a circle to left, so your face is pointing to the right.
Then airstrike will come from left to right in the direction you are looking in then. And not in the direction you looked at when u thrown the airstrike.

Sry for further OT (but i also think, we all got almost the same opinion about original topic)...

Afaik the airstrike has nothing to do with the direction you're lookin.

Image
Pos1 = FieldOp throwin signal smoke
Pos2 = Position on "Affirmative"

As you can see, the airstike is always in (~)90° to the position "Pos2".

You can move as long as you havent heared "affirmative". In which direction you're lookin doesnt matter.

Otherwise airstrikes would be hard to control (just imagine, you have to fight against an enemy after throwing smoke).

True true..a picture says more then 1000 words.

When I said look I did not mean you actually have to look there, but wanted to explain the left en right.

Thnxs for ur reply, Mephir

No problem. :)

Also a nice "feature" which isnt seen very often on servers (at least, from me):
You can throw the smoke and block it with your body for a few seconds. This hides the smoke from enemies, but (afaik) does not effect the airstrike.

Only one thing: the airstrike will be relative "short", cause it gets longer the more you're away from the marker. And since you are lyin' for a long time to block the smoke, you cant run quite far.
