Controversy over Low Recoil

Postby Vaakku » Tue May 26, 2009 16:20

Hello.

http://rapidshare.com/files/237432738/ankka.dm_84

This demo clearly shows that Ankka is cheating and... oh, wait, it's me!

Lately I've encountered numerous accusations on my recoil while sniping. Because these have emerged from several admins and because the server is a poor place to discuss this, I bring it up here. Why do I want to do that? I mean, I have never received any punishment because of this, never have I been declared guilty, so I take it that I'm innocent in the eyes of the admins as well. I wish to discuss this for I aspire to clear this matter - hopefully once and for all - so that I could play freely and not be viewed as a might-be-cheater.

The demo here is just a somewhat typical example of me sniping. It might not be very accurate but believe it or not, I don't have many recordings of myself playing. Feel free to post other ones if your demos are better or more justified.

Now to the issue itself. I actually don't completely understand what I'm accused of. Some have talked about a script that lowers recoil, others about tweaking of certain game settings. However I admit that I am no expert on the technical side of the game and I'd like to hear what exactly do these do and how they work. And even more importantly, I'd like to know how could I prove that I don't use any such things. However I do understand that the seemingly low recoil is the problem (or have I missed something?). This is hard to comprehend as I most certainly have a normal sized recoil. Even the demo above shows how the sight goes up and only after that down. Or is this how the scripts and tweaks would work as well? If so, I can only offer a simple explanation to it: prediction and quick mouse movements.

Let me explain. After having used the sniper rifles for a long time, I (as anyone with enough experience could) know quite accurately how large the recoil is. After all, it is standard sized every time, meaning that there are no surprises. This means that instantly after - or almost simultaneously as - I shoot, I quickly move the sight down roughly the amount I can predict the recoil to be. Sometimes this works nigh perfectly, sometimes I move too much or too little - or accidentally sideways even when the height would be correct.

In my opinion this does not differ much from any other weapon: they have recoils that can be learned and worked against, too, even if much smaller ones. One can get used to those weapons and their features, I only have decided to master the rifle. And I'm still far from perfect. You can also see me usually sniping with maximally zoomed out. This keeps the recoil same sized every time (ie. relatively smaller than when zoomed in) and also helps to predict its magnitude because my target does not dissappear from sight even for a moment.

My desire now is that someone could describe the accusations with detail and answer any questions I have, as I too try to answer as well as I can. I trust we can discuss this politely and that we (you) can come to a resoultion. I certainly hope that you can understand my point of view. If not and harsh measures are the way to go, then so be it. Even that would be better than to be constantly under suspicion.
Quack!

Cant see the demo. Et crashes after 2 secs of viewing...

Anyway I know many people who can quickly shoot snipeshots in pretty nice hit success and I have never thought they had anykind of no-recoil scripts. Yes one of them has sensitivity toggler but I do not count that sript.

Even funner have said something about MY sniping kills, and I am known to be a real sucker in it x_x

So far I cant remember anyone getting banned by a recoil script btw...

Sorry about that, I wonder what's wrong with it. Fortunately it's not very important.

Thanks for the sympathy. I too know that many ohters beat me with their speed and accuracy in sniping.

At least I was threatened with a ban, I hope it won't be implemented.

Bullet, connect to the server where that demo was taken (you will see the servername when you are loading the demo). Then disconnect and watch the demo. It wont crash anymore

Ahh again talking of recoil script...:)
Even if we all agree on the fact that a recoil script gives an unallowed advantage in the game, you can exactly tweak/set/config your mouse and keyboard to get the same result.
I mean just using a Class script where you set your X and Y for your mouse, a low sensy will avoid that big recoil ( Even some keyboards offer lots of possible class, aim and move "profiles").

Actually you are wrong. Sensitivty does nothing to recoil. Sure, pulling mouse down after shooting makes it easier to shoot sooner, but in that case having big sensitivity is the key.

if you think what I think, you might have meant pitch?

No, i mean a low Y sensi or at least this is how i call that, setted from your mouse not from ingame.

Forgive me my ignorance if this is a much debated matter.

Well, thanks for the information, but you make it sound like this is completely common knowledge and an everyday concern. This rouses more confusion, such as
- How common such tweaking is?
- How acceptable it actually is?
- How well can one enforce punishments for using those?

I'd also like to hear something from those that actually suspected me in game. I mean, the answers here thus far have not had as strict tone as what I had used to. After all I brought this up here thinking this is the most assured and easiest place to get the answers. Thanks in advance.

I understand where you're coming from...I've had plenty of practice with the sniper and have had one person claim i use script. (didnt know what he meant at the time)

I'm used to the recoil when fully zoomed out, but I can work the mouse wheel well enough to get a hit per second or so when zoomed further. As far as i know, I use the default sensitivity and have managed to get full control with it.
Just because I get some head shots, doesnt mean i'm using scripts..it means the people I shoot at are making predictable movements
