forced settings
i wanna request if it wouldnt be better , for more stable game when settings like
rate
packets
snaps ....
are forced by server
so if u connect its auto set .
so the timenudge prob could be solved too
as i see on ps1 its the biggest difference in players settings
so my question: do this maybe cause laggs too ?
and why i posted it here
edit: is it even possible ?

This will not only harm the servers but will also harm the unique settings some players have.
Our rulebook cleary states that timenudge should be 0 so at that point we could force when that is possible. I guess rate, maxpackets and snaps should not be forced, per different connection other settings are more smooth, so players themselves got less lags.

The standard rate of 5000 dates back to the old days when the Quake3 engine (id Tech 3) was first released back in 1999. 56k modems were still in use by most gamers and *DSL lines were a luxury only a few could affort. These days most people have a proper *DSL, Cable or fiber optic connection and should therefore use the maximum value, capped by the Q3 engine code itself, of 25000.
Recommended: /rate 25000
from the ps faq
im all for forcing this setting for everyone on the server
this is also why i dont believe in "changing your rate to 40000 will improve your connection', the engine caps at 25000

eh? where?

Damn ^^
Ok it is not in rulebook. But in each case: when connecting to ps1 the "awaiting gamestate" screen clearly announces that only timenudge 0 is allowed

go get a banana smadfox
my point is that the game should be equal for all player. with some settings u can cause things which makes u harder to hit, cause laggs... but if you personally know this gamestyle to play u hit same ...
so what about force all players to same settings
and i dont think about all small video settings
shit off if u can play better with fov 139,24 or fov 100 or 90
those things dont cause anything for others
think u now what i try to point out .. im a bit tired last time

I dont know any setting that couse lags or make u harder to hit... and fov goes 90 to 120 as far as i know
Could u specify about "harder to hit" and "couse lags"

Iirc setting CL_maxpackets to low value, when you have good connection, raises your ping, but makes you warp. Depending on your connection it can be strong weapon, and some ppl misuse it.
WHat ur talking about is not advantage cuz like its harder for u to hit its harder for them to hit too (if i understand correctly what u mean)
Me?
What do you exactly mean?
Well, i go throu every setting.
rate 40000 (or 25000)
Depends on Server actually 40000 can be better gameplay if it's a big server where players need more bandwidth. It's also a myth if rate works even above 25000.
Some say no, but i feel a difference between 25000.
25000 would be good for smaller Server with about 32 players MAX where they don't need more bandwidth as 25000 is enough, i don't think there's a BIG difference between 25000 and 40000 actually.
But something under 25000 is really not recommended at all. Nowadays everyone has Dsl.. who buys 56k modems?
cl_maxpackets are the settings which result in uneven gameplay with 100 you can't do much wrong.
60 - 100 is for Dsl connections.
Even though i saw players with 30 which makes them really harder to hit.
snaps 20 is a standard setting. Mostly more doesn't bring shit and just giving more lagspikes in the lagometer.
Timenudge 0.. gameplay.. minus settings lag more, giving better ping which is just visual, more lagspikes in the lagometer, uneven gameplay.
At last in ETPro settings are:
cl_maxpackets 100
rate 25000
snaps 20
cl_timenudge 0
it's competition play, so i don't think they will add stuff which make players warp.
eLemenT wrote:rate 40000

result in a good stable way to play, for every dsl connection.
indeed as most players on PS1 have as settings, so
I only saw 1 player with belgian flag a few months ago with timenudge set to -20 ofc he had 0 ping hehe
otherwise just stick to the settings element pointed out and everything should be fine
Why you don't try to force settings ingame, just to see if lag is reduce or disappear ?
We'll see if it solve the problem because this lag really piss me off :@
When I start playing ET, I used to play on a server where admins test settings firstly in team then with public. It was a good thing because they adjusted settings accurately to satisfy most of ppl. I think when you admin a server like PS1 you should do real time tests.
Shen, ****ed by lag.

I played on a NQ 1.2.9 server, 41 players, no lag, you know why ? Forced connection settings. I don't know if I can post the ip here :s
and noone was crying because of forced settings

havent seen it anywhere else yet but it means it can be done ,nice
imo it easily makes sense
everyone has a proper pc and net its not like in beginning of et
and imo u only have to look around ps-servers if u play on 1 with 5vs5 its still laggy ( people have totally different setting ) ps 2 3 fe u can play with no laggs
(all nearly same setting )
cant be sure if only this (setting) cause probs ....
BUT i think i should be tested ..
fine maybe some admins can give their opinion about ?

I'm not so expert in techincal stuff like this, but I think a short testing period shouldn't be a big trouble. Don't know if this requires of lot of time of programming and setting up the server. Maybe some tech masters like Rapid or Warren knows
yes, pretty pls force rate to 25000, cl_maxpackets to 100 and snaps to 40 for a proper and lagfree gaming, ah no that still won't be the case of c
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death.
I am very disappointed with that attitude.
I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."

i think by just forcing the rate and the maxpackets + the snaps, nobody's personal sets will be harmed, ofcourse, another rate will be better from one to another, but i think it should be critical to have everybody on a lagfree game
why not take a test day ?
somewhere in the weekends ? when its crowded ?
perfect time to test no ?
just my opinions, dont slap me if im wrong, im not so into the tech stuff,
