PC backup

Hi!

Thing is simple: my PC is basically fcked up (i wont go into details) and i want to do clean install. But i want to back some of my programs and files up. When I tried windows 7 own backup, it just started backing whole C drive up but as i said, I need only some programs to be backed up. So is there a way to do "partial" back up what would save me my important files and programs (photoshop, illustrator, few games etc) and nothing else?

Start > Run > NtBackup.exe

You can select which folders to backup.

simplies way is to copy itself on other partition or so.

NtBackup.exe is no longer on windaube 7

but ! you could get it by copying those 3 files from system32 folder on a win xp install

Code: Select all: ntbackup.exe ntmsapi.dll vssapi.dll

you'll get an error about removable devices not running, just ignore it.
when you'll want to restore, .bkf won't be registered so you'll have to do the work manually : right-click the files tree in recovery mode -> catalog file

well last time i had a virus on my laptop i used
-Rkill
-Malbytes Antimalware

Worked for me and i just told scary to do the same,
The first program worked for him, cfx.exe in his temp folder got closed.

Then he used the second program, and everything seemd to work fine. we were just talking on xife and suddenly his last words were:

it's why you suggested him NtBackup in the first place, i guess, nah ?

let's hope that he just had to reboot... anyway, win is perishable, seven only have a longer line ^^

Trolol.

Programs Death gave me actually worked. Before i couldnt open gadgets etc, now i can.
WHen i tried to clean PC i used SPybot, and anti virus programs but they didnt do the trick.

So thx Death, i dont need to do clean install after all!

I had to reinstall after mainboard burned, so i wasn't able to remove old IDE drivers

Still have a Windows 98 OS (installed at ~2000) that is working correctly xD

you're the kind of people who know what NtBackup is, and how to use it, and same for ccleaner and such tools i guess. i used to have an old pentium 233 who crossed twice the year in uptime (linux, but nvm), and my desktop comp usually have ~30 days with seven...

but for at least 90% of users, maintaining their os is only about restarting it when it's tired, and for this kind of users yes, win is perishable ^^

But i don't use ntbackup

I use Synchronizing data on 2nd disk with Syncback. Well if not the windows updates, thunders etc it is possible to have long uptimes. I don't do anything with maintaining it. Most windows fails is made by users who download and run cracked software with backdoors, trojans etc. P2P that isn't safe at all too. In work my serverstation (with Windows Server 2003) is running without any touching for months (usually ~300 days then power fail cause of maintenance, when we aren't working). All I dislike in Windows is their Update system after which You have to restart whole OS instead of modules (like under Linux). But after updating kernell You have to restart it too ^^ Linux wouldn't be less purishable for 90% users. Most of the Linux users know what are they doing, cause they did install it

not wrong... mainly, the biggest bug on a comp is between the screen and the chair :lol:

but i'm still convinced that linux have a big advantage against windows... there's no registry to polute ^^
