Massive Lag

Hello,

After god knows how many years i decided to try and play Enemy Territory again which was the game i played for a very long time during my... Child/teenage years i guess?
So i tried to return again to the ET community i played at but unfortunately the minute i joined, i had massive lag.

Whenever i turn towards the center of the map with my aim, everything starts to lag really bad, including the sound (e.g i hear "Dynamite planted... planted... planted... planted... etc. etc.) and the clicking sounds when i click a button in the main menu.

I tried the suggestions of this thread and of this thread. Sadly enough this did not help me at all on PS#1.

My computer specs:

Windows 7, 64-bit
ATI Radeon HD 7850 Sapphire
AMD FX-8120 8-core CPU
8GB DDR3 RAM

Oh, and i am forced to run ET as an administrator. Otherwise i will get the "Game code ( ui_mp_x86.dll ) failed Pure Server Check." error which is common on Windows 7.

I hope someone could help me out with this because i would love to play this game again!

Try run it on compatibility mode of winxp.

When i try running it in compatibility mode for Windows XP, it can no longer find my etkey and it will tell me to get a new one on etkey.org

I replaced my old etkey with a new one but it doesn't fix that problem unfortunately.

hi smooth i guess people are looking into it, atm I cannot help because i don't know that much about it sorrys :s. But i guess one of these somebody will help you out with this.

you enabled punkbuster?

If not, or if you are not sure, do /pb_cl_enable in your console right after you started et.

I got punkbuster enabled yes, it actually demanded that from me

I really hope a solution will be found because i would really love to play this game again! Such nostalgic and awesome memories of it, and since i will get a jaw surgery tomorrow and will be home for at least 7 weeks, i could play this all day, every day

I'm using the default etconfig that was provided with the ET installer that is on the downloads page of prime-squadron.

EDIT: The settings offered slightly helped, but sound and gameplay lag persisted. Going to try out Smadje's config to see if that helps!

That cfg is certainly not the best. Smad used to build nice configs. And you should take a look to some "connection" settings (com_hunkmegs 256 or 512, rate, cl_maxpackets, snaps) as well, you had a quite high ping when I saw you

Managed to fix the lag issue by typing /r_primitives 2
