Have to quit for a few months

Postby TheFireBirdNL » Sun Aug 05, 2007 12:48

I didn't now where to put it so i'll post it here.

A week ago my computer wasn't able to boot. I fixed it with a motherboard battery. Last thursday it wouldn 't boot again. So i bought a new computer. Without windows because i am running Linux. But now i have a problem. My graphics card is very new so there aren't any good drivers. Gaming is not an option at the moment. In october a new version of linux is comming hopefully with good drivers. So till then i'm off :(

But when my graphics card works good i'll be back ;)

Which graphics card do you have? If it's nvidia, did you try installing beta drivers (current version 100.14.06)?

It is an Nvidia 8600GT

i tried to install those beta drivers. They make an own kernel. But when i then reboot i get an error:
can't reach the nvidia kernel (or something like that) and a reinstall was nessecary. So i decided to wait for the next version of linux.

Hm i got a similar error on gentoo (something like "can't load kernel module nvidia.ko"), then i did a modprobe nvidia and it worked
Maybe there's a manual or tutorial on installing nvidia drivers for your distribution

Ok yesterday the beta of Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 is released. I installed it just now and checked the videocard and it works :D I think i'll be playing in just a week or 2.

If i have questions you'll hear it.
